Focus on protection forests: from forest plants to municipal technology

Caring for forests and natural landscapes, parks and green spaces is not a question of aesthetics; it’s a question of survival. Humans and animals need nature and its resources – for their habitat, food, and protection from the elements. This makes conservation, cultivation, care and growth all the more important, and forestry plays a key role here. That’s why the topic of protection forests and recreational forests is one of the major themes at the INTERFORST trade fair – from forest plants to tree care and tree cultivation through to municipal technology.

Is our commitment to protection forests and recreational forests really sufficient? Which machines, equipment, materials and systems provide for optimal forest maintenance? What are the specific effects of climate change? What is the best way to establish municipal technology? Our protection forests area provides answers to these and other questions. The range of topics? As broad as it is deep. And because nothing is more urgent than the responsible interaction with nature, climate change is an especially prominent topic at the forest trade fair – at the conference, at the Forum, at the special show and the Green Couch.

Looking back: At INTERFORST 2018, the following exhibitors were among those represented in the protection forests and recreational forests segment:

  • Silvatrees
  • Treepacker
  • Sailer Forstarbeiten
  • Erzeugergemeinschaft für Qualitätsforstpflanzen “Süddeutschland” e.V.

The range of topics in the protection forests segment:

Cultivation and care of protection forests and protection groves

Protection forests (or object protection forests) are an important component in the defense against natural hazards. For example, mountain forests protect villages and roads from rockfalls, landslides, and an avalanche protection forest protects against avalanches. Even in low-lying areas, protection forests helps to limit the dangers and effects of floods and high water. At the trade fair, you’ll learn which machines and equipment help to cultivate and care for protection forests and what protection forest funding is available.

Protection forests and climate change

The impact of climate change can be seen all around – for instance, in the form of more heat days and fewer frost days, longer growing seasons, new pathogens and an increase in extreme weather events and drought. These factors also affect the forest structure and composition of tree species. It is therefore recommended to classify the forest according to location, soil composition, water availability and climate scenarios. Why? This enables the development of an individual planning basis for reforestation and management, which can be used to make forests more climate-resistant. And to do so as quickly as possible, since no forest can grow and regenerate overnight.

Tree care

Not only indispensable in forests, but in urban areas, too: tree care for protection forest restoration. The aim and purpose is to preserve trees, prevent undesirable changes and improve and restore vitality. Another important aspect is to ensure traffic safety when trees grow along roads and railways. INTERFORST also offers an optimal overview of current methods, tools and trends in this area.

Landscape management and cultivation technology

Landscape management is primarily about nature conservation and the creation and preservation of healthy natural areas as living and leisure space for humans and animals. How can these be preserved for future generations? How much care is actually needed? When is it better to intervene in natural growth and when not?

Our supporting program will provide you with additional information – in practical presentations and events.

Municipal technology

Whether it’s operational management, city and street cleaning, winter maintenance or the design and care of green spaces: Without municipal technology, there would be no functioning municipalities. This also includes fleet management of highly specialized municipal vehicles that make the wide range of city or municipal tasks possible in the first place. We recommend: Check out our exhibitor directory in advance to learn which companies and products are relevant to you.

Recreational facilities in the forest

What makes a forest relaxing? For one, the natural setting, greenery and fresh air. And also a few human touches that enhance the recreational value. For example, benches and tables. Adequate and clear signage of paths and parking lots. Or nature and sports trails that combine the pleasant with the useful. What other possibilities are there and how can we optimally establish recreational facilities in the forest? The No. 1 forest trade fair offers a wide range of inspiration and ideas for these topics, too.

Tree nurseries, wild shrubs and Christmas tree plantations

From the general benefits of trees down to specific details: Learn which species are particularly resilient against bark beetles or can withstand climate changes. But it’s not just what – the how is also relevant in reforestation and protection forests restoration: That’s why you’ll find a variety of equipment and methods for planting wild shrubs and Christmas tree plantations, along with comprehensive ideas for nursery selections and equipment.

Machines, equipment and systems

If you want to achieve optimal results, don’t use just any tool – use the right one. At INTERFORST, you will find this information, too. The range includes machines, equipment, systems and accessories for the cultivation and care of protection forests and protection groves, for tree care, for municipal technology and for landscape conservation, cultivation technology and support for protection forests.
